Arrived in La Quijarro early morning on the 10th and proceeded to the Tamengo Hostel which looked great on the internet. Indeed it was, and I got a dorm to myself as it was the low season. We enjoyed a lazy day by the pool and I had a swim, trying not to think about the insects floating on the top of the water, taking in the views of the Pantanal. On the website, the hostel offers different tours so we asked what our options were. The owner proceeded to ring his one contact and said he'd arrange for him to come to the hostel and discuss the tours. The first day he couldn't get hold of him so we said we'd try the next morning. That evening I got attacked by mozzies which took a liking to the black leggings which I'd recently bought, and counted 18 bites within the space of 3 minutes... The evening entertainment was beer and a DVD in the mozzie proof room. Magic!
As we couldn't get hold of the tour guy, we were then advised that the military could potentially take us out on a tour, but they were going to charge us too much for a couple of hours so we decided that touring the Pantanal in Bolivia was not going to happen, so then searched the internet for options over the border in Brazil, eventually finding one we liked only to find they had no availability until 4 days later. As luck would have it though, they later had a cancellation for a triple room for one night so we grabbed it (although the preference would have been two nights).
