Today we see the Passion Play! I'm sure it will be awesome!  The play starts at 2:30 and runs until 5:00 for our supper break.  Then on again at 8:00 and over about 11:00.  Oh my goodness, are we actually going to see this wonderful performance?  It is performed from May through October and only every ten years.  We are so lucky to be able to see this!  I think we will be amazed.  Holy Week this year took on new meaning, knowing that we would be seeing this performed in September.  Next year, I think it will be very moving, also.

We got to sleep in a bit this morning.  After breakfast we walked and found the house with Hansel and Gretel and the one with Red Riding Hood painted on the outside walls. We also went into a catholic church and it was amazing.  The cemetery outside the church was very pretty, lots of crucifixes and not many tombstones.

We did a short walking tour with a local guide.  He took us to a woodcarvers shop where we could watch the woodcarver.  He was carving from a linden tree, it looked like soft maple wood.  We purchased two figurines, Joseph and Mary with baby Jesus.  We also purchased a carving for Bucky and Kathy of the Holy Family.

Oberammergau started getting very busy about 10:30.  It was amazing how many people were milling around and shopping quick before the play started.  What a performance.  WOW.  Jesus rode a real donkey, there were camels and horses.  Real sheep and goats and chickens in the temple scene, too.  We were in the 9th row back and could really see the actors expressions and such.  A very good performance.

We both think it was a great performance.  We followed along in the book.  We can tell you more about the whole process later - just know it was wonderful!
