Having heard lots of good things about Ilha Santa Catarina and the city of Floronopolis we decided to take our time and explore the island properly.

We started in the North at Praia do Ingleses and stayed at the very comfortable and welcoming Pousada Atoba run by Aline and her family for four nights.  It was the perfect place to be for our first full rainy and lazy day in 4 months of travelling. And the breakfasts!! Loads of fresh fruit, home baked cheese puffs and a variety of delicious cakes, granola, ham, cheese....being the budget backpackers that we are we were in heaven and I suspect Aline found she had to top up the portions more often than usual.

With the rain having passed by we spent our days checking out Ingleses, Santino, Jurure and Forte beaches, swimming in the icy ocean (the water is much colder here) getting lost on the local busses, walking across the massive sand dunes and continued the ongoing quest to find the perfect bikini. By way of explanation, as most women would agree bikini shopping in general is a daunting task but add to the mix the Brazillian Bikini, a one size fits all and that size is Teeny Tiny, and you are lucky to find anything that covers a fraction of your behind!

After 4 days in the north, we moved to the centre of the island (which is massive) near Praia Mole with fantastic views over the lagoon, Lagoa do Comceicao.  The local beaches are covered in fine white sand and surrounded by swanky beach bars.  And it was here that we found 2 things, the perfect Acai sucos and at last ... The Bikini (a special thanks to Kev, giving up many hours of his life, tirelessly searching the beaches of the world!).  In all our excitement we were not as vigilant as usual with our sunblock and both ended up with panda eyes...not an attractive look.

We moved further south to Campeche beach 2 days later and set up home in a small apartment 5 blocks from the beach.  The sun was out in all it's furry and feeling a tad sun drenched there was little to do except camp out under an umbrella on the beach, take occasional dips in the cool ocean and for some get a head start on looking for the next perfect bikini.
