Two days into the New Year and it was time to cross yet another border, this time into Brazil.  Another 24hr bus trip (amazing how well we now manage to sleep on busses) and we were in Rio de Janeiro, the city that has it all, white sandy beaches, mountains, forrests, warm sea and an incredible amount of energy.  We managed to find ourselves an excellent apartment for our stay, a real little home for 5 days in Copacabana.

Getting to grips with the bus system we managed to navigate our way around a tour of the city checking out St Theresa, Lapa, and the marvoulous statue of 'Christ the Redeemer.  The size of the statue is as incredible as the city views from the statue location, truly awesome.  We went on a Tour of the biggest Fuvela in Rio, home to 95000 people and is a little buzzing metropolis all on it's own.  Governed by the drug industry we were told that it is one of the safest places to be as the drug lords do not want any incidents that may require a police presence and we really did feel totally at ease there. A really interesting tour that shed some light onto how the other half of Rio operates.

Hundreds of people take to the beaches from morning to night and it was great to take it all in whilst watching the subset on Ipanema beach with a butterd corn on the cob in one hand and a Caprahini in the other.  We totally loved Rio and its buzz and found it difficult to leave!
