Here we go again! We didn't do our usual trip to Taos last year, but this year we just had to go! It will be our ninth trip since 1999. Boy are we lucky - KK's parents started this Christmas "gift" to us that year, and we have enjoyed making memories since then.
Anyway, we left Austin for Llano, spent the night, then left the next day for Roswell. Of course we had to have Cooper's BBQ for dinner the night before we left. On our way to Roswell we ate breakfast at McDonald's in Brady (the usual), and then sandwiches on the road (leftover Coopers on white bread - yum). We went to the Super 8 Motel in Roswell (just OK). Dinner at the Cattle Baron. Breakfast at the Super 8 was less than appetizing, so we went to Denny's (very friendly people, pretty good food.)
Then on to Santa Fe for lunch at our favorite - Guadalupe Cafe. Had to wait a bit, but the food was absolutely wonderful! The turkey sandwich (the Guadalupe special) was the best thing we ordered - sliced grilled turkey with avocado, jack cheese, and pesto, on delicious bread.
Arrived at Taos and went to Smith's for dinner provisions. Then found the house - very nice house although not in the best area. Ran to Cottam's (they stayed open later than usual) to get our boots and reserve our skis. Back home to fix various items for dinner, then to bed. Could not figure out how to work the TV.
Christmas Eve: Up early to go to Taos Ski Valley - got our skis, Taos Card, and lessons. I took a Greenbird, MD & KK were in one class, and CK got a class by himself. Beautiful weather, sun was shining. Lunch at Tenderfoot Katie's then back on the slopes. Left the slopes about 3:30 and were glad to be done - a great first day! Taos Outback Pizza for dinner, complete with Hawaiian shirts!
Christmas Day: Back to the slopes, lunch on the roof of the St. Bernard Hotel. Then more skiing, back home to town. We fed a white horse some carrots and took pictures with her. JK had made Chop Suey for dinner - very yummy! We decided that our holiday meals were very international - Mexican food, Pizza, and then Chinese! We tried to play a game, but could not find any in the house. KK found cards, but the several decks were all mixed up and did not have a complete deck. So, we ended up watching the movie "Elf" - it was great and we all enjoyed it!
Back to slopes again the next morning. JK and PK joined us for lunch on the roof of the St.Bernard - it was a beautiful day with the sun shining. MD decided to take a snowboard lesson and loved it. The three of us watched her at the end of the day on Strawberry Hill and she did great! Back home and leftovers for dinner. Hot tub, reading, and relaxing.
27 - DK stayed at the house with PK and JK while the other 3 went up the mountain to ski and board.
28 - MD stayed at the house with PK and JK while the other 3 went up the mountain to ski. It was again a great day for skiing - nice weather, sun was shining, a little more crowded with people but not too bad.
