Pinedale, WY is the home of the American Mountain Man Rendezvous on 7/9 through 7/12.
We drove from Moab, UT to Pinedale yesterday crossing some beautiful and wide open spaces.
There were mountains, high desert, hills, valleys mountain passes with very curvy roads and severe drop-offs, the 455 foot high Green River dam in Flaming Gorge National Recreational Area. That's where the deer and antelope play. We saw them when crossing from Utah to Wyoming, the antelope anyway.
Pinedale (population of 1400 before natural gas was found recently) was going to be a place to pass out after about 500 miles of driving. It turned out to be a celebration with live music, fireworks, good Chinese food (better than back home) and lots of friendly people. Even the local sheriff was willing to tell us the history of the area. We're going to the actual Rendezvous today at 1pm to see the mountain men do their thing (like in Centennial by Michener).
We're headed to the Tetons tonight and Yellowstone tomorrow. Hard to update a website while camping with no electricity and no Internet. We'll try...
