Where I stayed
Hotel Akyuz

The train was uncomfortable and unpleasant. The berths were very hot and the beds -- short. If you opened the window, you froze your feet (being closest to the window) while the rest of your body baked as if in a sauna.

However, that was not the worst of it, Jacqui had a massive attack of the traveller's illness and spent a very bad night.  The next day it was apparent that we would not be able to go on and so opted to stay here in Ankara for the night to rest and beat back the bad stuff while the rest of the group headed off by bus to the Cappadocia region.  We would catch up with them tomorrow.  When we got to the hotel, Jacqui collapsed and we had to go to the hospital for help.  They gave her some intravenous medicine to stop the pain and stomach turmoil and restore some electrolytes in her body.  The hospital stay for a few hours cost 32 TL or about $22.  She got a prescription for some meds that cost 2.2 TL or $1.50!  The treatment in the hospital seems to have done wonders, Jacqui's colour is returning and she has been resting for a few hours now.

GAP has arranged for a bus to help us catch up and we leave here tomorrow at noon for a 4 or 5 hour bus ride.

Dear Doug and Jacqui
Very sorry to hear of your stomach complaints and glad to hear that you are better.
Gap seems to be very good at arranging catch up time when disasters like this happens very impressive.
I have to say that your timing for getting sick was all wrong.... now if you were to get similar illness while I was there you would have got free treatment!!! ha! Ha! that would have saved you heaps Ivor and Sriyani

Oh dear. This account evokes hideous memories of long-ago trials in India. The good news is that awful as these episodes are, they are often quickly overcome. I hope that's the case with Jacqui. Is she getting enough hydration? Perhaps a couple of restorative local beers might be in order.

One more thing: Doug, you may not know that The Great Nash and his Phoenix teammates finished a sweep of the mighty Spurs yesterday. Now it's on to Round 3 and a likely clash with the hated Lakers.

Sorry to hear about Jacqui's sickness but I'm glad that she's on the mend. Thanx for filling us in Doug & enjoy your science experiments :)
