Where I stayed
Sugar Palm Resort
Northern Europeans love to come here - I have heard Swedish (lots!), German, Russian (lots), French, and Italian. So here we all are, lounging in our rented beach chairs, sitting under our umbrellas, and going for a dip when we get hot and bothered
I finished an entire novel on my Kindle today. (Miss you, book club). I went swimming 3 times, and had fried rice with chicken and a Singha beer for lunch. And then, my last time in the water I noticed my arms were a little red. Hmmm - I had put on sun screen - twice. Time to go back to my hotel room.
And that was where I discovered the worst thing that has happened to me since I have arrived in Thailand. . . I got seriously sunburned today - face, chest, arms, even legs, which never burn on me. I believe that a 30 sunblock might not be enough, and that the sun reflects off the sand, and under my umbrella - because only my front got burned. Now I see why the Thais who are selling trinkets on the beach are covered head-to-toe in shirts, pants, and hats.
I did go out to dinner to my favorite Thai restaurant here - where I get to talk to Saralrat, a young Thai woman who owns the restaurant with her boyfriend. They bought it after the 2004 tsunami, and serve delicious Thai and Indian food. She sent me to the Buddhist temple up the street, that you see in the photos.
So - I am now aloe veraed-up, and hiding in my room here tomorrow, which is a damn shame, as I had planned to spend another day reading another book, and lounging by the sea. Alas, not for me. I will do the academic thing and read and write like a good researcher. I have provided some pictures of this beautiful landscape - enjoy.
