Hello,

This weekend I was going to just stay in town and do some work, but my friend Martin the filmmaker (who lives in Hannover here in Germany) invited me to come with him to a car show south of Darmstadt in Hockenheim. This is one of the F1 race course locations. He was filming a pilot of sorts about car tuning and customizing.
He got me access to all the press areas and behind the scenes locations because I acted as he and his co-workers assistant (I carried around a tripod). The show was really fun; lots of drag racing, expensive sport cars racing around the big track, motorcross exhibition, burnouts, drifting, semi trucks racing around the track just as fast as some sport cars, and hot rod front wheel drive VW Rabbits that were faster than any Porsche/corvette/FordGT/etc. And we got to see it all closer than should have been be safely allowed, ex: the motorcross bikes jumped over Martin!
The most asinine part though was when we stayed in the campground that evening. I was concerned that our campsite was within 30 yards of the autobahn, and that I had no blanket/mat/bag or pillow (I hadn't intended to spend the night). I did luckily however have earplugs. But, some idiots right next to our site decided that they should play German techno music very, very loud all night. All night! How did THEY sleep, let alone how did anyone else sleep!! Nothing else bothered me other than the noise, and I managed to sleep about 4 hours on a spare mat that martin brought, dreaming about slitting all of their throats the whole time.
Anyway, the next day similar stuff was shown at the track all over again but the best part was the drag show exhibition. They had professional dragsters showing off how fast they could go down the track, and they had a jet powered dragster as well. Martin and I decided to abuse our press access and get as close to the finish line of the race track as possible (all the publics seats were at the starting line). Little did I know at the time why no one sits at the finish line.
Drag Video A is of the second to last dragster that was extremely loud and painful, but amazingly fast, near 300mph. Video B is of the jet dragster that almost blew our eardrums out. As it came by, the vibrations and noise were so intense I almost fell over (the video shows this). You can't even hear me cursing/yelling over the noise.

Also, my brain short circuited the other day when I went to an Italian restaurant in Germany. I ordered my meal in Spanish from an Italian in Germany because he spoke no english. When he started asking me questions in spanish my response came out in Japanese, I have no idea why. He didn't talk to me again:)

Hockenheim race course, you can see our campground between the course and the highway

News flash: Part of the mountain that I took pictures of in Müren Switzerland fell off and covered the cities around there where I stayed with dust. A piece the size of a skyscraper:
