Today we went to Irving, Texas to see the Mustangs of Las Colinas sculpture and exhibit. Getting there was very easy, even with the road being under construction. Parking is available in a garage right next to the plaza. If you bring your ticket into the exhibit they will validate it for a $2.50 savings.
We walked around to the sculptures first. There were only a few other people in the plaza area so the horses were very impressive. I took a panoramic shot but I'm not sure if uploading it here will degrade it too much to make anything out.
The next few shots were taken while walking around. There's a little sign at the feet of the two back horses informing people to not climb on them. Touching the horses is okay though and you can see that a lot of folks do.
The layout of the area around the horses is very interesting. You find yourself on varying levels as you wander around the sculpture. When we took the posed shots we were at the edge and up about two feet. Don't step backwards without knowing just where you are!
After our initial viewing, we went inside the building that has the museum. We couldn't see any signs indicating where it is inside but there is a very nice guard who pointed it out to us... tucked away in a corner.
We were the only visitors there. Mary, the hostess, gave us a nice tour of the displays and then set us up to see the video about the process of making the Mustangs. Quite an elaborate process indeed!
Before we left, Mary gave us some information about other interesting things to do and see in Irving. We're going to put some of them on our list of things to do next time we're here.
We went back out to the sculpture and by then the sun was lower and causing some very beautiful reflection and shadowing. I tried to take a picture of it but I'll need to work on getting that sort of thing right.
All total, we were there for about an hour. We'll have to come back again at different times of the day and also after dark, but... That will have to be on future trips.
Picture Note: There are captions on a few of the pictures.
