What I did
a carpet shop

Flag of Turkey  , Cappadocia,
Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Today we went to se carpet weaving, it was certainly interesting, each carpet is unique,

He bought out hundreds of carpets, various styles, various weaves, various knotssilk, cotton, cotton with silk, wool, they were all really great to look at

we had our free lunch, along with apple, turkish tea, coffee, coke , fanta, then he showed us the rugs again, I have to be honest, I was sorely tempted by them, not just because we had a free lunch, but by the sheer choice of them (look at the fe photos I took)

I saw 2 really beautiful rugs, one of silk and cotton and another of silk (23 million stiches in that one alone and all done by hand)

In the end it came down to a cup of tea and some serious haggling

In the end I bought 2 rugs, 1 cotton and silk and the other of silk (opinions please)

i wanted to buy some thing special for Anne, I hope these are special, I know they are unique and there will never be another rug like them (similar, but never the same) andIi think I paid a fair price for them (dont ask how much, I'm not saying) but I know would have got better

Have a look, let me know what you think, they are the first 2 pictured

They're beautiful rugs and Anne should be thrilled. Just so you know, the first one is a prayer rug and the curved pattern usually points toward Mecca.

Hi Derrick,
The rugs look like they are prayer mat size, yes? I was contemplating a little sideline in importing hand made rugs and carpets into England a few years ago. Problems surfaced with the Customs people though, at that time the import duties and VAT made them way more expensive than you could get them for in the UK to start with! The only exception, as far as | can remember, were pure wool ones, which didn't attract any duty at all.
About the starter going on the wagon, you should be pleased that it's gone now, while you're still in relative civilisation, it could be awkward finding a hill to park it on every time you had to stop, lol.
When are you going to post some pics of the inside of the truck/bus for me? I know that I'll probably be the only person who's remotely interested, but still?

Jim on

Anne should be pleased- Some skill in the individuallity of them all- great experience seeing them made too.
I see so much wwithout leaving home, through your eyes- thanks mate

Are you really sure you want pictures of the motley lot we have on the truck ?

They spend most of the time eating or sleeping

i'll post them in the next entry

(I am surprised I have been able to post a comment, the internet has been so dire of late)

hi Popi,
Nope, no nasty smells, no rubbish left lying about, bins emptied every day, no bugs aboard, we clean and wash the truck out every night (after a cook group) all food kept in cool boxes, except what we are eating,no fresh food left on board over night, unless unopened and sealed

we use showers whenever possible

So things are pretty good on the truck

If there is no smell, send that carpet over to Evia to pick me and carry me there.

One is a bit larger than a prayer mat, the other (the silk one) is quite smallish, but reverseable, depends which way you hold it, the colours are different and it shimmers in sunlight (not going to happen too much in the UK at the moment

Anne on

I am sure i will really like the mats and thank you

Beautiful designs and a unique record of your visit to that part of the planet.

Some similar ones sell at Harrods for several thousand pounds
