Long bus Ride
After an incredibly long bus ride, with several shopping and 'comfort breaks' we arrived at our bush camp, beside a lake, halfway up a mountain (it was a long, slow grind getting up here, with many twists and turns),
We climbed several mountains on our way here, the highest we got was 1761meters, (5777.5 feet) the air was incredibly clear and clean, with several large patches of un-melted snow
We passed some incredible scenery on our way, just a shame we never stopped admire some of it
The level of the lake was well down if appearances was anything to go by, I really would have thought it would have been full at this time of year, there has been dry river beds and dried up streams, and after a lot of waving of arms and pointing with locals, it would seem as if there hasn’t been a lot of snow and snow melt in the mountains this year, we passed a lot of mountains with snow still on them, but not as much as they would have liked (they need the snow melt to water the crops and irrigate the fields, and there are huge swathes of them)
I was surprised to see snow still in the mountains at this time of year, but they are usually clear of snow come June
We had a meal of vegetable stew (after I had lit the fire again)
I went down to the lake to see what all the row was about, breeding season for frogs, and there was hundreds of them, the noise they made wasn’t bad, quite pleasant actually, I did try and take some photos of them, but either I or the flash scared them off, they were a bit different from frogs at home these were black spotted, some blue and some pink, must have been some genetic mutation along the line with these frog
As there wasn’t much else to do, the area was devoid of wild life, so it was an early night, sometime during the night, the heavens opened up, thunder, lightning, wind rain lashing down, I thought my tent was going blow away, but only a few pegs were pulled out, the wind and rain stopped, the frogs started with their croaking again, then there was a lot of howling and barking, I don’t know if it was a dog or a wolf, but it went on for hours, which made a long night even longer, but eventually morning came, it was a relief to get up, the campsite was awash, nothing for it, but to pack up the tent wet, it was a cold breakfast with just coffee and bread, then pack up and hit the road again
I have posted some of the scenery photos I took along the way; all on the move from the truck (weren’t worth taking any at the ‘comfort breaks’)
Still I hope you enjoy the photos
