Well here I was just browsing the internet and I found a blog about the UK to Oz trip done back in 2010 and over Christmas and New Year (2011)

I can only assume they were young and I have no idea if they were a solo traveler or had a partner

It did drop off for a while, they got bored with 'blogging' (I hope I don't, but I guess we shall see, when we start)

They just didnt seem very interested in any place they visited, they spent a lot of time complaining about the weather,<too cold, too hot, too humid, too high, too wet> or the early starts

I read it, but I am not really sure that they have enjoyed it, some very good parts, some not so good, they seem to have spent an awful lot of time just wandering around rather aimlessly, they only posted 12 pictures for the whole trip and did say how expensive a lot of the countries were, especially Australia,

I hope its not (anyone give me any idea of prices of anything ?)

They seemed to drift about with no real destinations in Australia and just seemed to want to meet up with anyone from the truck for a reunion drink (there seemed a lot of drinking and ending up face down in various places)

just don't know what to expect now

looks like u will need to get your drinking skills up todate mate lol a lot of these blogs i have read of this trip seem to indicate that it is a lot of driving boredom an drinking but then i look at this trip as an adventure some where u have never been so enjoy it and relax chill out and oz id starting to get expensive as we seem to be the currency of demand at the moment hence we are now $1.08 to $1 usd
the pound is about 67cents to a pound so u will get it at a 40 p discount lol so 1 ausssie dollars is equivalent to 67p .
Enjoy the pre trip planning mate when do you leave

We meet the truck at Hammersmith 06:30 7 April
I can uderstand the Oz $ being the money of choice, nothing else is worth a carrot at the moment

Several times I have come across with similar entries from people who have a RWT but in reality don't enjoy it.
I highly believe that in reality they don't know what they are after, people without experience, and they are out there because they have heard other people having a similar trip and just want to do it.
I get disappointed when I come across these entries. I believe I would surely know what to do and what to expect when I were on such trip.
Pity that we in Greece face this economic crisis, and I cannot enjoy a similar trip at least for the time being.
I will be following you throughout the trip....I am sure you know what to take with you that you missed on your previous trip.

Just you wait, my mates. My wife retires next year and we plan to do a RTW taking about six months. We will be spending our children's inheritances and will have a fabulous time. If we complain about anything, it will for something really serious, like a tsunami, earthquake or cyclone. We are going at attempt the whole trip couchsurfing, so maybe there will be a little of the inheritance left over (for another trip!).

I'm doing this trip on my own (excluding the other people in the truck)
My missus has a few more years to go till she retires, and rather than hang about waiting for God to call, I thought I would see what else this world has to offer
well, I have had enough packing and upacking now, its done, just 'bits' left to put in the day sack

I tried taking stuff out, putting stuff in, it just amounted the same each time, just in a different order
How long is the S.A. trip ?
The road trip to Perth should be a doddle after the trip to Oz
I will definately be following your blog, the last one was excellent

Peggy Bright on

You are right. Perth should be easy. South America is four months, but it will be six by the time we're done—with time in the USA before and entra time in Brazil at the end.
The old blog and new blog are going together. The address stays the same, ut the focus will change.

Hi Derrick. Just to add to previous comments, I did this trip last year with my husband, the same one Peggy and John were on, and it was amazing. Perhaps because we are older we got more out of it than the younger ones you were reading about.did. We didn't find the drive days boring, there is always something to look at out of the window and combined with reading and sleeping, the day passes surprisingly quickly. Do read Peggy's blog, it gives a very good true account - the good and bad!
I wish we could join you in April and do it all again!
ps. drinking is not compulsary!

Hi Lin
i did follow Peggys blog, nearly all the way through, seems she had a great time, if her blog was anything to go by
The only thing I can see being a problem is home sickness, but it will be like I was in the army again, without the 'green wear'
Looking forward to it
I hope you will follow my blog and post any comments/advice

Hi Derrick, I read the same blog, and know what you mean about the drinking, I wasn't sure about how much they enjoyed it as well, but then again when you read the same trip blogged by different people it is amazing how one person sees something and the other doesn't.
Have a brilliant trip - look forward to reading your blog, and picking up tips for when we do the similar one.
Louise
