What I did
visited the poachers Village
It was on the 14 June I had a chance of seeing a real poachers village
I met a pygmy who had poached Gorillas when he was younger, he still poaches, but just antelope
I was the only person there, the others had gone in a group to seethe gorillas, so it left me with time to spare
I was shown where the village king had his home, his wife and concubines, (he really had the pick of the tribe)
They dressed me up in all the kings finery (I felt a bit silly, but I had never been a king before, so I went with the flow)
They showed me around his home, the cooking fires, his 'entertaining' quarters and where all the big decision's were made, things like life or death
Met the local witch doctor, had a tribal dance performed for JUST me, a hunting dance was performed, this was supposed to give the hunters good luck when they hunted gorillas
The bow they used looked like a poorly made kids toy, but it wasa really effective, they used to dig a pit, when the gorilla fell in it, they shot it full of arrows, a bit brutal, but it worked, now they realise there is more money in showing them off
I spent about 5 hours here, even visted the 'pub' (I use this VERY loosely)
I met nearly akll of trhe ex-poachers, they were really proud of their expertise (a 4ft 6 bloke takes on a gorilla, even with a bow and arrow seems very daunting to me)
I really like the dancing and drums they played just for me, so doing your 'own' thing sometimes really pays off
I have posted a couple of videos, they may not be everyones choice of entertainment, but I enjoyed watching them
