After a good night's sleep we woke to a bright, sunny day. There was much to be done this morning, namely make Celtic Warrior as presentable as possible as we were going to be hosting some friends for lunch. Julie busied herself with the interior and I washed the decks and even did some scrubbing of the hull at the waterline, the first time since we launched in May! All was ready by 12:30 and we sat down to await the arrival of the hordes.
The hordes consisted of old friends, all of IBM extraction. Firstly there was Rosemary Hurrell, then her 'brother' Derek Sanders ( Derek took Rosemary as his guest on a Tivoli (an IBM acquired company) sales award cruise to the Caribbean, sharing a room but strictly on a platonic basis, he is a gentleman after all!) and finally Allen & Pam Brain. We have been meeting as a 6 some on periodic occasions for some years and this time, it was Rosemary's turn to be hostess and we were to spend the weekend at her house in Stock, some 23 miles away. However, as we were now all retired, the weekend could start early, commencing with this Friday's visit to our boat. That is the background.
We were soon reunited and as usual, the laughter and conversation flowed in torrents. There is something about the chemistry here that is quite magical, we always have a great time. After lunch, we took a stroll down the embankment that keeps the tide out of an area of reclaimed grazing land. It was showing Tollesbury at its best and very well it did too!
Strolling over, we then got into the cars and made our way back to Rosemary's house. Thence it was aperitifs, followed by a walk to the local pub for dinner, back to R's for nightcaps and bed, with the volume of conversation and laughter undimmed. It was promising to be a great weekend.
