At Leggett we decide to get on Highway 1 and see more of the coast. The first part of the ride almost puts Denise down for the count, she's riding shotgun and is unprepared for the twists and turns and dips and dives, cliffs and mist, and almost loses her breakfast. What a waste that would have been, of food and good scenery gone unappreciated! Dramamine works but makes her sleepy, eventually all is well as we pass Fort Bragg and enter Mendocino county, at Albion we decide to take 128 all the way to Berkeley.

Ahh, wine country! So many familiar names, so many wines Victor remembers tasting at some time or other. We enjoy the neat rows of vines, some already harvested, others laden with heavy bunches of dark grapes. Stands of eucalyptus give the air a beautiful tang. We finally decide to stop, choosing the deLorimier Winery where we taste some luscious zinfandel, their '04 Meritage, and the '03 which we buy a case of to share with the kids this coming week. We camp just past Calistoga and look forward to seeing Javi tomorrow.
