Where I stayed
Milo McIver State Park
We reluctantly fold up the camper although the old thing has thick canvas instead of the newer lightweight nylon fabric and it is really quite damp. We follow the coast until the Oregon border where the mighty Columbia River meets the ocean and cross a magnificent bridge to Astoria, and then another bridge westward and we are in Oregon. We turn our backs on the ocean for now and head towards Portland, drive around it and camp in McIver State Park, very neat and tranquil. A short walk before dinner along a path thick with juicy blackberries leads us to a fish hatchery where huge salmon leap against the current in their struggle to continue on their way.
