Wanapum Campground

As we're leaving Spokane, the propane tank which is almost empty falls off its nook at the front of the camper and bounces along on the avenue, coming to a gentle stop in the middle of the turning lane. Victor leaps from the truck to chase after it, then jogs along the road with it cradled in his arms. Very funny (Denise thought so, he didn’t).

Drive through endless miles of wheat fields, already harvested and soil prepared for next crop. Lots and lots of wind farms. Detour slightly north to see the Grand Coulee Dam (wow!), Lake Roosevelt, drive along Banks Lake through huge rocky canyons along the Columbia River. Lunch in the park in the neat town of Waterville, continue through Wenatchee and Quincy until we reach the town of Vantage (oops, don’t blink, you missed it!) and the Wanapum State Park campground. Amazingly, very few campgrounds in this state, all filled up with Seattle people on weekends. Decided to spend two nights on the shores of Columbia River to get the camper organized after all this time. Walked the trail through Ginkgo Petrified Forest, restocked supplies at Ellensburg and checked email in the public library.
