Flag of Greece  , Peloponnese,
Monday, March 19, 2012

The journey that I take regularly still gives surprises.  Among all the concrete that makes up Corinth, I came across an old railway carriage converted to a living space.  By the old railway station which was close to the city centre and port, there are still carriages, and the old tracks.  I remember when I came along those tracks, nearly 15 years ago, thinking how quaint they were, and in fact I must have come that way even longer ago, in 1974 when I first came to Greece and took a rail journey to the Peloponnese.

Now, though I take a taxi or walk from the hotel to the new Korinthos Station on the edge of the city.  At least, it was on the edge a few years ago, but I notice the city is spreading towards it, as inevitably happens when new transport routes are built.  I long for the day when I can take a train through the Peloponnese once again but at present it simply isn't practical - indeed I am very lucky to be able to come as far as Corinth.

So- back to the airport, where I have time to wait outside in the sun, enjoying a colourful seat, cool concrete, with a choice of facing the sun or being protected from it.  Clever work!
