Well - There has been a succession of empires both before and after the Classical Greek and many ancient Greek settlements also have Roman ruins with them. UK towns also have Roman ruins but I have not heard of any ancient Greek settlements in the UK .   The Roman Empire seems to have spread further North than the Greek Empire.  A Greek friend told me that the Greeks named England though I can't confirm this.  On the Peloponnese there are settlements and castles with different designs indicating when they were built - or enlarged.  It all adds interest to any journey.  Methoni has a Venetian Castle (see photos at www.trigonogroves.com/methonicastle.html )  and there is a Roman bath house at Olympia.

I get quite confused with the Roman and Greek architecture and design as they seem to merge.  I wanted to see whether there was any Greek reference at Bath and there was!  The Roman baths were more extensive than I had expected and the layout and displays were the best I have ever seen  - great technology at work to bring it all to life.  There was mention of Greek Gods and Goddesses.   The Baths are within easy walking distance of the Bath Spa railway station and are right in the town centre.  I had not realised how far down the excavations were made to unearth them though.  We also visited the Fashion Museum close by (Buy a ticket to both and get a reduction in price).   We did not have time to explore much further but the Regency Terraces are stunning and  I hope next time I visit I'll take a tour on the bus to see more of this well preserved and beautiful town.

Some people like to travel to see the differences between countries.  I have found that what is most striking is the similarities and there is a Museum in Oxford that Illustrates this well! - See Entry 1 of this blog!
