Another week has passed in Bonn and now another Monday at work...
It's been an interesting week, work's been busy but good. Went to a preview of the Guggenheim exhibition - very exciting! Didn't know quite what to expect but it proved to be SO nice!
So Tathiana's birthday on Wednesday - we all went to the Buddha bar (strange place in the middle of Bonn, with beach-sand on the floor upstairs and a funky bar/lounge downstairs...) to celebrate with her, almost killed ourselves getting there and the poor birthday girl was stuck on the train from Brusseles and didn't arrive until late...just as we had to leave =( Tathi - we still have your present at Drachenfels 28! =)
K arrived on Thursday, almost didn't recognize him as black as he'd got! =) Tanning in London has done him well =) He came, he saw, he conquered my room! Thanks to Paula for taking me, the poor room-less refugee, under her wings and providing me with shelter (a very comfy mattress!). So Friday was explore-Bonn-day, everything was just as new to me as to K. We let our hair down and jumped into fountains, cuddled with statues and dived into the world of German pastries!
That evening was Eva's leaving bbq at the bank of Rhine - we were late and missed the whole speech =( The bbq didn't really get going so all that effort put into making the stupid skewers was lost, but the salad was good! Paula got drunk and tried to force feed me with one of her colleagues, poor guy (and poor me!). It is also official: It only takes two beers to knock that Portuguese chick off her feet - who would have thought!?
Cologne was the next destination, with the intention to do lots and lots of sightseeing. I promise! But as so often before, things didn't quite go as planned and we ended up doing more sightseeing in Benneton than the roman city! =) We did see the worlds scariest cathedral (only because it was straight in front of the main train station) so we got our share of cultural heritage!
After a nightmare trip home (think UK-style public transport and weather) we once again had to break the world record in getting ready for a fancy restaurant, for day 2 of Eva's leaving weekend. Arrived to the Chinese boat fashionably late - again! - but the food was really good! Definitely doesn't beat Thai Grand in Luf but for a 12.90 Euro buffet, I'm not complaining! Eva and Piyush were cuddling in the corner, as God intended them to, and Amit and me attempted to get a picture with the Eva-trademark face (see pic's!). Speaking of Amit - silly man was too shy to come with us to the Salsa party after dinner and missed out on loads! As a Salsa virgin I was imagining hot Latino ladies in bright colour dresses, high heels and tons of Antonio Banderas-clones holding them around their waists. I never thought I'd see so many Germans dancing salsa, shaking their ass-ets to the beat and some of them quite successfully! It was a fun night, learned the basics of salsa -lost my virginity - but I still think there is a time and place for dancing according to rules, and a time and place for free-style dancing =) Feet are still killing but definitely worth it!
Sunday I was hoping to spend more time with Eva, as she was leaving us in the afternoon, but it didn't quite turn out like that... We went on a boat trip on the Rhine, destination Linz. A perfect Sunday trip, a couple of hours on the boat to Linz and then a couple of hours in the cute little town of Linz. Not even gonna try to describe it, will let the pictures talk.
On our way back we stopped for an hour in Königswinter - nice, but not as cute as Linz! We (Paula) got a sheesha from a really cute shop ("cute" is the word today!) though!!! So excited! Didn't end up trying it out last night though as we got home late, exhausted and sunburned - but we definitely will! And after all, it is a "authentic Egyptian-made waterpipe, not the crappy Tunisian or Turkish ones you'll find in other stores" - as we were told =) It's all blue and puurrttyyy!
So sad that Eva is gone... Some people you meet for a short period of time and know that you would have become really good friends if you had more time together. I'll miss you loads, dudette!
Pictures attached!
