What I did
Had fun
They say you can take a "monkey from the bush" but you can never "Take the bush" out of his heart! :) Well l have stayed in Bærum with some friends for a good lonely 3 weeks. For a fact, As an African you can not take Africa out of my heart! Became a home sick! Everything started really good in the first few days up until people started getting busy with their lives. l am person who is used to seeing a lot of people roaming up and about, the perfect African smiles on their faces, the greetings from all the strangers you would a rub shoulders with on the narrow streets of Zanzibar, in short just glowing and radiant faces you see despite whats bothering them on ther innermost part of their hearts ( Hardly grumpy).
Well l had met some friendly Norwegians in Africa before l left and they where so cheerful and eager to talk and do stuff. Had a lot of verbal invitations, but now it all had a sudden turn :( l cant really pitty myself though, thats just the way it is. l decided to call any one of these individuals at random to make an appointment and go out or have a coffee or drink somewhere downtown but it was all invain, Everybody was busy with something ! To my surprise all where on Facebook chatting with me for a good 30 mins. mmmh! What should l say?! Nothing but going along with the flow....
Really had good times downtown Oslo all by myself and my good loyal friend, "Beer". l embraced him with love, joy and happiness though he was a bit expensive this time! :p...
"This is not a negative though or post, dont get it wrong."
I am just trying to paint a picture to Europeans who will visit Africa and to Africans who will visit Europe.Unlike Norway, everyday after work in Zanzibar we always meet up for one or two drinks then go home or you can just go out by yourself and you are assured of meeting someone awesome to talk to. Sometimes some people will have good intentions and sometimes bad intentions, and on this l leave it for you to judge.
Days passed by, I met some of my nice Norwegian friends l had met in pubs, nowhere else. l cant talk to anyone on the T bane. That look wierd l guess, should l just say that it felt so wierd! And to make it worse as a black man or African, hell!.......
We had good times drinking in cozy bars, dancing the night out till 3.30 am when the bars close. It is pretty nice to do that if you just stay close by and dont have to take public transport, because you will not get any. Guess the last bus to Bærum stops at 1 am if l am not mistaken, and if you miss this one then you will be forced to take a taxi which is not a cheaper option in Norway. You also cant hang around town till its morning, because its damn cold. Unlike Tanzania or some other European countries a Hotel for the rest of the morning is also not a good option, so foget it and plan ahead to be safe, Anyway as l said ealier on this is all not meant to be nagative or to scare anyone... Norway is a nice country with a lot of good and interesting history, interesting culture and scenery. You must visit!
