At home still!

Three days to go and things are looking and feeling a little hairy around here (and no, that's not a reference to the current state of my legs...)

We have managed to find a house-and-cat-sitter (Thanks Emily!) and so all is good on that front, however I still have a million things to do and very little time to do them....

The list includes all sorts of mundane things like laundry and housework; seasonal things such as writing/sending Christmas Cards, buying Christmas gifts and drinking & eating things that I shouldn't; and exciting/critical stuff such as packing, checking travel documents and trying to find a ride to the airport. I have also consoled myself with the knowledge that no matter how long we have left I would always find more things that needed to be done and that I will leave for this trip with a list of things I'd liked to have done, that will just have to wait for eight months!

When we nailed down the timing for this trip I was expecting to be quite sad to be leaving Alberta before Christmas, my favourite time of year. But for the last week or two the weather has been brutal - tonnes of snow and ridiculously cold temperatures. For our not-so-local friends and family, just what do I mean by this? Check out the pictures I've posted today.....yes, the thermostat is reading an outside temperature of -32.6 and no, that isn't pretty snow spray paint on the inside of my window, it's actual ice! To add some perspective I immediately googled the temperature in Costa Rica right now....+30C!

So, it's not surprising that when I looked outside this morning instead of that tinge of sadness about leaving, I started doing my happy dance around the house. I'm not sure which is worse minus 33 and windchill in Alberta or plus 29C and humidity in Costa Rica??? I'm hoping the latter proves to be more comfortable, but I'm sure it will be less stressful.....
