Today was a big day in our trip, one that we had talked about and planned for quite a while: the day we finally made it to Hogwarts! We set our alarm early in an attempt to beat the crowds and after passing through the park gates headed straight for Universal Orlando's newest land...The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. As we passed under the gates welcoming us to Hogsmead we couldn't help but be a bit mesmerized at the details in all the familiar sites: the Hogwarts Express spewing smoke, Zonkos and Honeydukes trying to entice us to come in, and the line outside of Ollivander's where many were getting set to see what special wand would pick them.  The namesake attraction, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey was our first stop, Della had heard that it tended to fill up fast so we went straight there and waited in a short line for our trip into the Hogwarts castle. We were not disappointed at all! After making our way through the castle, including Dumbledore's office and a magical classroom, we boarded an enchanted bench for a pretty amazing ride. It combined huge video screens, animatronic figures and a high speed track into one great time...we even enjoyed a little Quidditch while we were at it!
There was lots more to see and do, including a ride on a Hippogriff around Hagrid's hut and a ride on a dragon at the Triwizard Tournament. On this particular ride, two dragons full of riders spin circles around each other and come within 18 inches of a midair collision during a flip! Each dragon is a completely different coaster and provides a unique ride whether your swirling through the air on a Chinese Firebolt or a Hungarian Horntail. No trip to Hogsmead would be complete without some cornish pasties, a little pumpkin juice and an ice cold butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks (which might have been Della's favorite part). Don't think that we didn't make it to the rest of the park though, there was a lot to see and do elsewhere. The Incredible Hulk roller coaster was a wild ride, and so was The Cat in the Hat! We definitely made the most of our day at Universal and made it to nearly every show and ride, many of our favorites we did more than once! By the time we made it back to the campsite we were both completely beat but still smiling from our Potter high!
