We left Tofo Beach and Bamboozi Backpackers to drive toVilanculos. En route we wandered round the market at Inhambane. Simon did his Xmas shopping - we had a budget of 20ZAR (about 2GBP) to buy eachother pressies and a budget of 50ZAR (a fiver) to buy 5 pressies for the rest of the group to open on Xmas Day at our little party. The market stank of fish! There were some lovely wooden carvings - all a bit too big to fit in our backpacks though.
Vilanculos is HOT! We set upour tents and did the oligatory dash into the sea to cool off. Unfortunately the sea was so warm it didnt really do the trick. Within 5 minutes of being in the sea I had been stung in a delicate place by a jellyfish!
Woke up on Christmas Day in the tent at about 6am and it was already at least 30 degrees in there. Simon had organised another SCUBA trip and the Dutch and I went into town to find a nice place to eat our Christmas Dinner. Both failed miserably. Simon got lost and any resteraunts that would have passed our standards were closed. Not a problem though, Simon saved us $100US by not diving and we ate at the campsite bar where they had a Braai (BBQ) overlooking the beach.
We wrapped all our pressies in toilet paper and put them in a bin bag and played our Xmas Present lottery game. I ended up wth an ankle bracelet that I had bought. Simon got a photo album, a necklace made of shells which stank of the dead animals that once inhabited them, and a coconut.
After our dinner and pressies we went to a local bar for local people. Most of the Xmas pressies we'd just been given ended up in the hands of the local kids as did our camera (almost). Simon was very badly pick pocketed on the way back to the campsite. Thankfully he heard, saw and felt the guy trying to rob him!
We spent Boxing Day on a boat - no one was seasick. It took us to a desert island - basically a sand dune in the sea with no trees or shade - then on to "2 mile reef" where we went snorkelling for an hour with all the colourful fish under the sun.  Amazing but everybody was sunburnt from swimming woth their bums in the air in crystal clear water for an hour. Ouch! We actually rememered the camera this time and used a whole film a few minutes!
That night while eating steak and chips cooked by Melvyn, we noticed that the campsite's security guard was armed. Not with a gun or a baton like in SA but with a bow and arrow!!!
