We left Sevilla a little late and headed straight for Madrid. We arrived to our fancy hotel around lunch time. We headed to the bar for a drink and some lunch while we were waiting for our room. Our room was designed by Zaha Hadid and was stark white, cave like with very fluid organic lines. We had a booked tickets to the bullfights that evening, so we decided to hang out at the hotel and relax in the pool and sauna before we had to leave.
The bull fights were an experience. Everyone was smoking either cigarettes or cigars. We've never seen so many smoking cigars, not even in Cuba. If we had have gone to the bullfights four weeks ago, I wouldn't have been able to stay in such a smoke filled environment. It was truly disgusting. So over the last month it seems that I've built up a bit of a resistance to it.
The first fight was shockingly brutal. I had forgotten that they actually kill the bull. So although the amazing costumes, movements and poses of the matadors were spectacular, for me, the whole thing is still a bit cruel. All of the Spanish crowd didn't seem to think so though. Seeing that it was 'normal' seemed to make the whole exhibition more acceptable and I was able to wipe the tears out of me eyes and watch the next 4 fights.
Afterwards, we walked back towards our hotel to find some grub. Bull was definitely not going to be on the menu tonight. Instead, I had rabbit, which was a bit dry for my liking. Feeling extremely tired, we went to the hotel to sleep in our big comfy bed. Somehow we managed to check out the nightclub on the top floor before we stumbled to bed.
