We left the train station around 5:30pm. There was still plenty of daylight. That is the good thing about Europe in this season, it gets dark after 8pm.
As many of the streets in Venice, the street outside the train station is mainly a big river/canal. We found that the easy way to get to our hotel was to catch the public transport. There is a boat that passes every 10 minutes and goes from the train station to San Marcos (and further). This transport stops on all main attractions along the city. We found it very useful. It is not cheap, but is better than a water taxi or similar services.
Our hotel, hotel del Porto, was everything that we expected and needed. It is located in San Marcos and is 5 minutes walk from the Basilica. Also, our room had view of one of the canales, awesome! Leesa loved it.
Once that we left the bags at the hotel, we went for a walk around San Marcos. We were also looking for a good restaurant to have dinner.
We found Venice just beautiful. All the little streets, the bridges, the gondolas, restaurants, gelaterias, etc, etc. it is just amazing.
We had dinner at Osteria San Marcos. I have to say, the best dinner that we have had so far. Also, we were able to try the local wine. We finally finished our antibiotics. Yeah!
