Had two nigths in a motel in Bermagui trying to dry out!
Home-schooling: This has proved to be more difficult than we thought. It is difficult to motivate the kids at this stage and there appears to be a some gaps in their knowledge. We try to do about two hours a day in the morning and some informal learning in the arvo. It is hard not to get frustrated when the kids seem disinterested and half asleep. I have greater respect for primary teachers but at the same time wonder how any student can learning anything when the ratio of students to teachers is 22 : 1 versus our 1.5 : 1. This was one of my concerns at the start of the trip and I hope that we can get into a better rhythm as we progress. Neither of us want to turn the schooling into a chore and we also realise that there is a lot of informal learning going on (at least that is one of our rationalisaitons). It also detracts from our enjoyment. Looking forward to school holidays already!
