We stopped at Devaprayag Temple enroute. It was Janmastami and there were a lot of celebrations in this Vishnu temple.
Devaprayag, was yet another long climb. the stairs to the temple were huge and steep. A longish walk took us to the the temple. A quick Darshan and a quicker trip to the sangam and we were back on our way to Rishikesh.
We reached Shangri-la hotel a little further from Rudraprayag and realised that there is a landslide ahead and will be impossible to reach Rishikesh/ Srinagar.
Instead of being on the road, we decided to wait at Shangri la...Few hours spent.. well relaxing under a tree... and of course birding :)
Few more hours there, am sure the collective enlightenment that the 8 of us, that tree could have been the next Kalpavriksha!!
When the wait was not turning into anything fruitful, with no idea of when the roads will open, the drivers decided to go back to Rudraprayag, and check us in so that we will atleast have a place to stay overnight.
We drove back to Rudraprayag and the hotel people there told us there was no water and electricity there and no point in staying there.
Few phone calls later, the drivers decided to take an alternate route to Srinagar. We were going to drive 100 kms to Srinagar via Pauri to cover 20 kms :)
And truly the route via pauri was breathtakingly beautiful..by far the best scene in the ride.
Somewhere midway, we stopped at a tea shop.. the place was Khirsu.
There was a GMVN guest house about a km inside from the tea shop point. Some of us wanted a break and decided to walk a bit. A while later the others called and said that we were stopping at Khirsu, cos Srikot was full and had no place for us.
A chance spot, Khirsu, even as we entered we saw birds. That was enough to bring enthusiasm in all of us.
After some snacks, and full excited, cos we had found macro subjects to birds to everything in a single spot. We decided to make the most of our halt there.
A clear sky, we could see the milky way clearly. That night, Vivek, Jeyenth and Vinod tried their hand at clicking long exposure shots of the milky way.
We had amazing cottages and the hospitality at the rest house was out of the world.
We woke up in the morning to an amazing time with woodpeckers and blue magpies.
According to the people in the resort, the best time to come there will be October to March, when I believe you can see leopards right near the resort.
A certain must visit is Khirsu.
