This morning Ross and I met group of our friends downtown to catch a shuttle bus to Playa Hermosa.
Today is the El Carizal Surf Competition, sponsored by Quicksilver. The event got underway just after 9:00 am, and featured some of Nicaragua's finest surfer's. We were cheering for 'Rex Calderon" who is currently number one in Central America! Sadly we had to leave before the end
of the competition. I will have to wait to find out the final results!!
The surf competition is just one of many events going on in and around San Juan del Sur this weekend.the competition is expected to continue until sunset, with a party on the beach after wards.
The Earthship Pitaya Festival is the main event on Saturday the 19Th
The Festival takes place each year in the center of El Carizal. It's a small community along the southern pacific coast of Nicaragua.
In this small community you will find Central America's first Earthship," Casa Llanta", which is a totally " off grid" home made out of recycled materials, and uses solar power, rain, and gray water systems.
The Festival features local performers and international artists, and is presented by Claro on Saturday the 19Th .There will lots going on starting at 3:00pm Sat.A party for the kid's with face painting , games, a giant piņata.
At sunset the music will start on "Claro's Main Stage"
The cost for the festival is by donation ( $ 20.00 is suggested) Proceeds from the donations go towards the Casa Llanta Fund.

Papa Bantam and Kali Boom with Bluefields Soundsystem
A Caribbean band with music from their new album " Bluefields School of Music"
Division Urbana
Premier Rock Band from Nicaragua. This is their second Pitaya Festival

There is no parking on the Music Festival site. Do take a shuttle from town.Iskra will be offering an hourly van for $1.00 per person/per way starting at noon.
There will also be a free bus service starting at 3 pm until 2 am. All transportation leaves from Pau Hana restaurant.
I'm off to Playa El Coco again in the morning, and then hopping on the ferry to Ometepe, so I will be back in a few days! Please "check in" later................

Hahaha, contestants only in the water today! The full moon is amazing, it really lights up the whole town! This place just isn't the same without you guy's :-(
