We have just about finished packing, and will enjoy our last couple nights here in San Juan del sur.Since we have spent the last 6 weeks here, and have tried almost every restaurant in town,I thought I would put together a list of our personal favourites. This is a compilation of a bunch of things, and in no particular order. If I neglect to mention you, please forgive me, and I will put it on the list. There are just so many good things, great people etc.........

# 1 favorite place for breakfast : The central Mercado, for obvious reasons. Most tasty and good prices.

#1 morning routine: Every morning Ross and I enjoy walking the beach. It is a great beach for walking and is about 3 km long, sometimes we go first to El Gato Negro and get a large latte to go. You never know what your going to find on the beach.........

#1 favourite lunch spot: Hands down it's the Bambu Beach.Wonderful location on the beach.Constant breeze, relaxed atmosphere, and contrary to some opinions, very reasonably priced.Ross and I had lunch there today, with a couple drinks total $10.00. Good God! Where can you find better???

#1 dinner restaurant: This one is a "no brainer" people. It is El Colibri. Mary Jane has created an oasis in the garden.I kid you not when I say it is some of the best food we have eaten ever! I do mean anywhere, anytime. It is truly world class.Honorable mention goes to El Pozo, also quite fabulous!

#1 bar on the beach: This was a tough call, but we voted, and The Pier won top spot, followed closely by Henry Iguana's.The reason we chose the pier is the vibe there is great, love, love ,love the music.Steve and his staff are wonderful, and you can't get much closer to the beach.

# 1 place for pizza: Got to be Mauricio's.If you love pizza then you know where to find this spot, and they deliver. Mauricio is from Italy, and he knows pizza.Good selection of pasta dishes as well.we really liked the tortellini with spinach and ricotta cheese..At the end of your meal he will bring you a Lemonchello.Mmmmm, yummy

#1 place for a shave and haircut: Roberto's barber shop. Ross will be raving about this place until we return next year. Superb level of service, detail, professional, the list is long.I don't know how Ross will survive back home with me and my scissors. I don't know how he will make the transition back to a bic razor !!

#1 margarita. I have probably had a hundred or so since I got here, so I think I can say with some authority that the best margarita's are at The Pier. All the other bars are of course wonderful, but the Pier has mastered the margarita!!

#1 single guy:. Yeah I know, I am weird, but we have met so many great people in the last 6 weeks, some of them just really impacted us in a big way,and our friend Grant from Ontario is just that kinda guy,His buddy Ernie gets an honorable mention.Funny guy's, lotsa laughs.Glad we met them, and hope to see them again next year!

#1 couple from B.C. That's easy, it's Stan and Joyce from Quallicum beach. Didn't hook up with them until almost the end of their stay in SJdS,but really good people, and happy to have shared a little time with them.Hope we see you again !

#1 couple from Chicago: That would be our new best buddies Clay and Kim.We got to spend just 10 days with Clay and Kim but they were the kind of people that made you feel like you had known them forever. We know next year that we will try to plan our holiday at the same time cuz they are a blast to hang out with.Miss you guy's!!!

#1 couple from Guelph Ontario
There are dozen's of Canadians visiting Nicaragua ,and Judy and Andor are two of the nicest people we have met. They had to leave a couple weeks ago, but we know they to will be back.We will be in the Melrose,so do book early!!

#1 place to get a manicure and pedicure. This one ended in a tie for first place because both are so worthy. The Azul Spa just opened a month ago, both Ross and I have been there a number of times and we just love it,we equally enjoy it when Renda calls the local gal Veronica. She comes here to the hotel, and does the pedicures on the balcony, fabulous!!

#1 thing to do when the wind is just right. Going sailing on Ralph's boat" No Bad Day's"
There were just two things I had to do while I was here in SJdS. One was taking a day trip to Granada, and the other was sailing. It was definately the highlight of my trip sailing with captain Ralph and his sea scouts.

#1 Hotel in San Juan del Sur: The Park Avenue Villa's. I researched every single hotel in a 20 mile radius of the city and I am more than convinced that we did choose the best hotel in the city. The location of this hotel is perfect, just a block off the beach, and the noise. We have the best view in the city(yeah I saw Pelican Eye's) so what? The large balcony here where all the guests get together to toast the sunset is something you must experience to really appreciate, and those lucky few reading this ,you know what I am talking about.

Lastly, and I did save the best for last..........# 1  Transplanted Texan's.Ralph and Renda Hewitt

As I said earlier, Ross and I have met a lot of wonderful people here, and two of the most special people are these two. Ralph and Renda have been so kind, and helpful. They have made our stay in San Juan del Sur so very memorable,we will leave here on Sunday like we are leaving some family behind, but take comfort knowing we will see them both next year. Love you guy's!
