The travellers bid a fond farewell to Ko Phangnan -for now- and again boarded their 'V.I.P' bus for a leisurely 12 hour drive north- which actually took 18 hours because the bus kept breaking down- surprise surprise!!

We were warned by the girls we met in Bangkok that Chang Mai was under three foot of water, but thought we'd just go along anyway!! From Bangkok, got another 12 hour bus to Chang Mai- quite the journey! Spent much of the 12 hours drinking the lovely SamSung and having a singsong with a crazy English guy and a few other randomers!! Well it past the time!! Very funny.....

Really loved Chang Mai, very laid back and the people are really friendly. Also floods had stopped so no three foot of water- luckily enough!! Spent 5 nights in Chang Mai. Did a Thai Massage course while there! Really good, not sure if we can be trusted to massage real people however!!

We stayed in a guesthouse that was included in the price of the trek...... dodgiest people ever!! We arrived off the bus and they began a big story about this amazing trek they do to Phi, more expensive than others, but really 'authentic'. Obviously we were delighted and as we thought that this great trek was the one we were going on as we had booked through them, but we were told that ours was one of the other treks they had just slagged off!! When we tried to get some details about our trek, we were blatantly ignored!!

The trek turned out to be really good- if not a little challenging!! Five hours uphill trekking- not the stroll in the park we'd hoped for! Stayed with the chief of the local tribe the first night- drinking rice wine (lethal!) and singing songs all night by candle light- as there was no electricity! The 'shower' was a hose in a shed- that the family could see into while eating breakfast!! The second night we stayed with a family from another tribe and slept in a bamboo hut which had huge gaps for all the little creatures to come in and pay a visit while we slept!! We were also serenaded to sleep by the sound of a squealing pig tied underneath the hut!! Interesting experience!!

Did an elephant trek and bamboo rafting- that was the highlight of the trek!! Got covered in muck and baby elephant saliva- but their so cute it didn't matter!!

Next stop a two day boat trip to Laos..........
