After a long day on the bus, complete with panic that I might be late since we had to detour due to an old hotel burning down in Perth (arson), I actually arrived early to the rendevous point of Mt. Magnet. I had been standing with my luggage for about a minute wondering what to do with my 30 minutes, when a man walks up and asks, "Are you Shawnee?"
(now, despite correcting people a few times, I am generally known as "Shawnee". No one can seem to remember my actual name!)

Pete showed me to my room and around the hotel, then it was into the pub for a drink and dinner. (Which was excellent! Donna, the cook, has just started as well but so far I am enjoying her meals! Especially since it means I have to cook for myself way less haha!)

I crashed pretty early, and in the afternoon on Tuesday, Pete told me to grab a stubbie holder for my beer, and we got in the Ute for a drive around the Heritage Trail. Apparently this is the staff initiation! He also took me to an old gold mine, and we were able to drive right down into it. It was pretty cool to see it from that view!

Later on, I got to work in the pub- Marg, the other woman working in the bar, showed me the basics. It seems pretty easy to catch on since i have had so much experience working the till in the past. Drink-wise, its super easy- there are no taps, so it is just finding the correct drink and opening the bottle or can! Its also a bit of a bottle shop so people can come in and buy cases of drinks or bottles of liquor or whatever. I worked pretty much om my own last night, but Marg hung around on the other sideof the bar in case I needed her help. it went pretty decent though. Apparently Thursday is the big night though so we will see how I fare!

So far my impression is that I'm going to enjoy my time here... we'll see how I feel after 7 weeks though! But it will be a great way to save for Asia, basically the only thing I have to pay for is internet time... if I need anything from the shop I can just charge it to the hotel account. I'm a kept woman!
