Yesterday, I went to the Waitangi Treaty grounds with Edel and another girl who turned up as we were leaving, Ruth (Scotland). We paid the extra $10 for a guided tour. It was worth every penny! We learned soo much regarding the Maori peoples relationship with the Europeans. Our guide was actually born on the grounds and raised there, so he knew loads of stuff. We actually took an extra 1/2 hour with him touring the place, then spent another 2 hours almost just wandering on our own. It was amazing really. On the way home, we just drove to the falls since we had spent so long at the grounds. Nothing spectacular, but cool to see my first falls in NZ!

In the evening, a girl named Zoey turned up who had spent lots of time here, so we went for a beer in town. By 11 I was ready to crash so we came home for an early night. I got up extra early yesterday to get my cleaning out of the way as I was hoping to get a skydive in! But the weather did not co-operate, so it didn't work out. Instead i walked into town with Zoey and merv (the owner) and we watched some free live jazz, as the jazz & blues festival is on this weekend. One band in particular was great, name is escaping me right now. Something with a C! When I got back, i was wiped out so i took a nap, then walked to the markey to pick up tonights dinner (veggie soup) and some beer. Went out again with Zoey, again called it a little bit of an early night as she knew loads of people and I am just always tired here.

This afternoon, I had the dolphin cruise scheduled. I went to town a little early in order to do some beachcombing for seashells. I found some pretty cool ones. Then I hopped on the boat. At first, it was really enjoyable. Once we got into the open water however, water was quite rough. At first it was somewhat fun, then I just started feeling sick. Memories of when jeanette took us on a friends sailboat years ago came flooding back, when I was almost sick then. So we did see some dolphins, a bit hard to spot but there nonetheless. I don't even think I got any photos of them, they move so quickly! On the way back they were there again, however I took the opportunity of the boat slowing down to run below deck and try not to be sick. One of the crew guys came and told me to go stand at the back of the boat to get fresh air, where I found another girl in the same position as me. He also told us that apples and orange juice have an effect of making people feel sick. Maybe they should print that in the brochure.. as i had an apple right after i got on board!

Anyways, once that ordeal was over, I got off in Russell which is a little town across the bay from Paihia. I spent a few hours exploring there, there really is not much to see, they have the oldest church in NZ (1847 i believe) the museum was closed. I walked up to flagstaff hill and saw some cool views. Tomorrow I am back to Auckland in the evening. I think I will just go straight on to Mercury Bay.

XOXO
