What a strange feeling it was walking through those gates in the airport alone, leaving my family behind. I wasn't really apprehensive though, just excited! I went through the security checks, and moseyed on down the hallway towards the departure gates. Along the way, I saw a stand selling watches for $10 so I bought one. I figured it would be important for me to be on time to the bus!

Arriving at my gate, it was easy to spot Alicia- she was wearing lime green "pink" sweats. We had met online through the Contiki chat boards. We figured out that 1. we were on the same flight and 2. we are in the same profession. So i found her in the lounge and we chatted a bit while we waited.

On the plane, my rowmates were pretty cool, two guys. One from the Netherlands heading home, another from Toronto visiting some family I think in India for a wedding and some travelling. I dozed a bit, went for a few walks, etc. 7+ hours later, we arrived in Amsterdam. The first thing I did was look for a little kiosk where I bought some chapstick- do NOT forget this while flying. While waiting for our connecting flight I spotted out another couple I had chatted with that would be sharing our cab, who had flown in from Ottawa. We chatted while we waited... and waited.. and waited. our flight ended up being delayed like 2 hours, and when we got on the plane, they let us know the original one had broken down and they had to take the 'new' one out of storage. Comfortingly, overhead panels were being held on by duct tape. I found out my two rowmates on this flight were fellow Contiki-ers.
