Before you get to Ground Zero there's St Pauls Cathedral - this was a sanctuary for the teams of people who worked night and day for months to clear the site.  Volunteers made sure beds were made and food available.  A very moving place.

Ground Zero was one of the places that we wanted to see whilst in NY.  After watching it live on TV, seeing the site is something that words just cannot describe.

The World Trade Centre Memorial is a very emotional place and an absolute must.  Accounts of people who were there hit home so much more than seeing and hearing accounts on the TV.  The walls of pictures of missing people has us both in tears.

One of the buildings next to the WTC had metal / glass fragments embedded into it along with gouges - the force cannot be imagined.

The plans for the new site will allow for quite time to respect its history.  At the moment it is a building site with thousands of people working there.

From here we walked to Battery Park and caught the free Staten Island ferry to Staten Island and then back again.  We saw the Statue of Liberty as the boat sailed past and we braved the cold wind to view Manhattan from the open deck - bloody cold!!!

A quick slice of pizza on dry land before heading off to Wall Street.

Our feet couldn't carry us much further, but we did managed to see Radio City Music Hall just as it was getting dark.

Night, night
