4 months after our quick stint in Thailand we were back and I was looking forward to seeing more of the country. And eating more lovely Thai food!
We took the boat from Langkawi in Malaysia to the island of Koh Lipe on the very south of the Andaman Coast. Of course we would have to go through immigration which took place at a tiny office on the beach of Koh Lipe. Standing in the sunshine with the sand between your toes is a much more enjoyable way to enter a country!
My friends Sam and Chris were in Thailand for a holiday en route to emigrating to Oz so we had arranged to meet up on Koh Lipe and spend a week together.
We had a great time. Rob and I went diving together at 8 Mile Rock and we hired a boat for the day with Sam, Chris and a Spanish guy we met diving - Joesp, and went snorkelling and fishing around some of the nearby islands.
Koh Lipe was great but there were a few too many 'visitors' to our room (a basic bamboo hut), including several frogs, a giant millipede, a giant moth, a couple of cockroaches and a rat. I tried to be brave but after having a shower one evening right next to the rat I told Rob I needed a break from the animals and insects at the next place we stayed!
We also witnessed an emergency dash to the beach by the police whilst we were there. A tourist had found what they thought was a hand grenade lying on the beach but it turned out to be nothing more than the end of a fire dancing stick. We got some good photos though!
