Where I stayed
KOA West Yellowstone
Today we ventured into the lovely town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They claim to be the last old western town left in America. I had seen pictures of houses in the area years ago. I thought this might be a place to live some day. Unless we win the lottery, this will not happen anytime soon. It was a beautiful town- well maintained, clean, friendly, lots of shops and great western atmosphere....$25,000 for paintings and sculptures and other items through the roof in price. They did, however, have an excellent organic ice cream store. No GMO's---all happy here!
After Jackson, we drove to Grand Teton National Park. Teton is an Indian word derived from the word "Teewinot" meaning "many pinnacles." It was named by fur traders who saw the mountain from the Idaho side and thought the tips looked like their women's breasts. They called the top three "Les Trios Tetons" (I'm guessing that means three boobies) Hence, some inappropriate pictures taken and inappropriate responses all day long.
They had many hiking trails that led to glaciers, but all were about ten miles. No kids interested and it was too late. We drove through the park and stopped at Jenny lake where we got some great pictures of our children. I am wishing I would have picked fewer parks to see so that we could have spent more time in each of them. This would be a great one to come back to to explore.
Saw a lot of birds again today. Rick knew most of them and we looked them up in his new bird book. We could not identify a all-white bird with an orange beak. Rick was discouraged all day about it.
Tomorrow, we leave this KOA and head towards Custer, SD. We will stop in one area of Yellowstone before we move on. I am hoping we are able to stop and see Devil's tower and also the town of Sundance. We also have possibly one more shot at seeing some wild horses north of Cody, Wyoming.
