We had booked Wayan to collect us at 0900, to take us on
a "Cultural Tour" of tour of East Bali. We firstly went to Tenganan,
where there is a village of people that live in very traditional ways and open
their village to tourists. This was a very beautiful place to visit and we had
one of the village leaders take us through his village. the woman here weave
and make the double intak, a cloth that is only made in this village. We did
purchase some beautiful cloths but am not certain they were made in this
village.

What we did learn here is that there are doors/gates on
all compounds to keep the buffalo out and wonder if this is the original reason
for the all the beautifully ornate gates in Bali.

The 2nd stop was the old Raja Palace, that is in some
disrepair. We only spent around 30 minutes here, enough time to appreciate the
architecture and see the entire compound. Once outside we sat and waited for
Wayan to finish his cigarette and I used my hat to soften the stone ledge and
forgot to pick it up when we left. I discovered this at the next place we went
to, where I had to buy a new hat, the brim of which is so large it covers my
entire face, ears and neck and prompted Darryl to tell me I looked like a duck.
Which is entirely correct, I know that Kate will say to me, " I can't
believe you wore that in public!!!" When she sees it, but it did the
trick.

After the palace, we visited Tirta Gangga, one of three
water palaces built by the late Raja of Karangasem in 1948. This was really
beautiful and would have been even more enjoyable if a most annoying man did
not try to be our "guide" and give us information. In the end, I told
him all the important details as I had read up on them in the morning, so we paid
him some money and told him we did not need his services any more. Sam had
already walked off. We went prepared to swim in the crystal clear spring water
but it looked like the rains were coming so decided against it. Instead we went
to Bali Asli and had a magnificent 2hr lunch!

Once back to the resort, we swam and lazed about and
talked to other guests. We had booked in for the duck feast, cooked by Dewar,
the chef, whom we met in the morning. Dewar and Penny are friends and she said
to ask him for black rice pudding, which we did and he said he will make it for
us for dinner. Well, our meal was divine!! Sam and  I are serious duck lovers and he reckons this
was the best duck he has ever had, for me it is one of my top 5 duck meals ever
and all the way through the meal I knew that Kate would have loved this duck
meal!!
