We have been in Concon Chile for a week now. I started this trip from Moreno Valley, California where I live, to Oswego, Chicago where Andy lives. We had tickets to see the stage play "Wicked" for Friday June 15, 20007. The following Wednesday we started our road trip. We drove to Southern California, back to my home, to drop off the truck and the harley. We stayed there a few days, then rented a car and drove up North to San Fransisco. There Andy had a meeting for Friday. After site seeing for a day, we were on our plane heading for Concon. Andy is here for the next 2 years working. I am on summer break so I came along. At first it was very scarey for me. I know no Spanish, none. I felt like a fish out of water. But, people here are very nice and understanding, most of the time. I do get really excited when I hear someone talking English. I miss talking. I have met a few people who speak English. Andy does most of the ordering in the restaurants. One of our first dinners out he didn't order well but the food we recieved was great. He somehow ordered 3 servings of french fries. Way to many. We did go out for the drink of Chile. It is called Pisco. Very good.
The first week end we were here was a three day week end. Not sure what holiday it was but it was nice having Andy home for 3 days. We drove to the Andes. About 2 hours from the apartment. They are just breath taking. My camera batterie died half way up there! So we plan on going back. Maybe the next time we will go over the border into Argintina. We have to see if the rental truck is allowed in. They have a huge open air market with more fruits and vegetable in one place then I have ever seen. We bought some abaloney, but when we tried to cook it. YUK it was awlful. We need to learn what to do. We just threw it on the BBQ, big mistake. Was tough and really salty. We will try again. I have not found a wine I didn't like. But the food in the stores are not what I expected. We can not find US spices. And there is no dip for the chips here. You can get TV in english with spainish sub titles. We haven't been able to find English reading books. This week has been pretty quite. Pretty much just settling in. 6 more weeks to go.
