San Francisco to Monterey

Well what a day...as mentioned we wanted to go on the cable cars today ...so with the end of daylight savings here on the west coast we enjoyed a lovely sleep in and went to ride the cable cars. ....but so did every other tourist in SF want to ride as well ...the line up for them was about 200 people long.. Bloody hell we could not be bothered lining up nor could we afford the time to wait so we settled for a picture of the tram instead ...lol and hit the road to Monterey.
The drive to Monterey is meant to be one of the nicest drives in the USA as it takes you along the coast....but...did our GPS find this road...NO...and could we find out how to get on it reading one of our thousand maps ...NO...so we ended up on the most ridiculous road that took us inland, it wasn't even a freeway it was just this road that went through all the suburbs...kidding we weren't miffed. ..we put into the GPS route 1, state route 1, freeway 1 and every other version we could think of and it found nothing cause silly us should of put in hwy 1...how simple...lol...yanks don't call their roads hwy's every other word but hwy, but they did this time and we eventually found it albeit too late to enjoy the scenery but we found it none the less. Monterey is a lovely seaside town that is home to 6 golf courses the most famous of them pebble beach. Alan was in heaven, it is a public course unlike Augusta so you can go in and check it out...he was walking on hollowed turf..he walked out onto the 18th green and you couldn't wipe the smile off his face..he was a happy man, this was one of his bucket list items for this trip. We had dinner down on cannery row which is a group of old sardine cannery warehouses that operated back in the heyday of this town. The warehouses have been converted into restaurants and shops
and is a popular hangout for locals and tourists...just like us.

We loved Monterey, and all the shops along Cannery Row. We spent the afternoon at the famour Aquarium which was awesome. Glad Alan ticked off an item on his bucket list. Not long now before you're back home. Take care x
