Baywaatch Guest House

We've booked ourselves into the Baywatch Guest House in Unwatuna, which is only 1.5km from the Beach Hut, but could be a thousand miles away! Don’t get me wrong, this is a lovely little place, but we’re back to watching the budget! The room is incredibly clean and the people seem really nice too. Had a walk down to the beach, which is nice and sandy and so think we may like it here for a few days. Then it’s off to Galle Fort for a bit of culture and maybe some more gem shopping ;-)

Unawatuna was a sleepy little place and the sea was rather dirty, so we didn’t head in for a dip. We later found out that it is as it looks, raw sewerage from Galle! We meet a lovely lady called Sam from Australia, who has been travelling around Asia for 2 years! We spend hours whiling away the time having long conversations about our travel experiences / recommendations and taking advice on running a business (Sam had a number of very successful businesses in Airlie Beach); we start chatting at breakfast one day and 5 and a half hours later, we’re still in the breakfast café, still talking! Then at beer o’clock, we meet up in Tarturuga Bar (on the beach) to continue our conversation – much to the amusements of the bar boys! Unawatuna was a bit disappointing, as the random building right on the beach had ruined the views – definitely in need of a planning department! Although, we saw a coastal protection agency just along the road, which was housed in a huge monstrosity of a building right on the beach! Guess it’s like banging your head against the wall here J
