we stopped off at a few old tiny historic pubs. the first was at 8 am for a cup of tea at Laramah Pub. It had a small croc in a tank and loadsa talking parrots. the lady came down with Houdini, the blue tongued lizard which dean held but i only managed to stroke.
the next stop was at daly waters, another small outback style pub with flags and money and authoritive badges from all over the world decorating every surface in there.
next we stopped at a place called Dunmara and watched a snake show. the man bought out a black headed python and a brown and yellow water snake. he told us loads of facts about the snakes, most of which we have forgotten by now! the Black headed pyhton is the 2nd deadliest snake in the world but this one had lost its teeth so he couldnt do much harm
after lunch we had another 4 hour drive (11 hours drive in total) which bought us to the devils marbles to see sunset. the devils marbles are hundreds of huge rock boulders which formed over thousands of years due to erosion and the wearing of the granite stone. the devil part of the marbles came from the local aborigonal people who believe and made up all sorts of tales, otherwise known as dreamtime. they believed that mad men lived within the rocks and tried to lure them into their mad world, once entered there was no going back but they could later be cleansed of their madness by an old lady singing ti them. there are hundreds of dreamtime tales about most things in aus, eg the rock, kata tjuta etc.
our campsite for the night was at Wauchome. the showers were lovely and hot - the first fir days. as we were heading further down south its becoming more and more cold. when we first started out everyone was wearing shorts and vest tops, now we all have layers of jumpers and jackets on.
again we went to the bar for a few and had an early night. so really not much was seen today but we were looking forward to the trip to ayres rock!
