Mister Sandman, bring me a dune... and the rudest buggy I´ve ever seen... and some sandboard to slide down obscene... dunes. Mmmm, better stop this lameness there.

So, Huacachina. Oasis in the desert and home to two things to do. One buggy, two sandboard. One plus two equals... amazing fun!

I´ve stuck a couple of clips on the blog to illustrate better what we were doing but should caveat two things. Firstly, the buggy almost went airborne at times and there was no way I was going to film that as it meant letting go of the cage. The other was some of these dunes grew to over 200m and there was no way you wanted anything in your pockets (like a camera) at that time for fear of you breaking it or it quite literally breaking you. I´m only guessing here but front first we covered about 150m in nine seconds. i.e. almost 40mph only one inch off the sand. Yes, a little scary but once over the edge you´re in for the ride as sticking limbs out spells disaster.

Views of the dunes, especially when the sun was setting are worth a looky. This oasis of fun stay was short and sweet - and we left happy if not a little light on the skin around elbows and knees.

That said, I obviously need to lose a tad more weight somehow. Next stop was Nazca to fly over the ancient animal picture lines cut into the ground. When we arrived at the titchy airfield they wouldn´t sell me the last seat on the last plane for the day after doing a few calculations - saying it couldn´t handle the extra load. Maybe it was a good thing given the safety record in these parts!
