After a good night's sleep we headed north to Sedona, where we had reservations. As you approach that area you are met with magnificent rock formations, mostly red in color.
The Oak Creek Canyon is spectacular with giant mountains of colorful rock. We really enjoyed visiting Slide Rock State Park, a popular swimming area with flat rock along the creek. Even though it was November, people were swimming and sliding down the rocks into the cold water.
At Red Rock State Park, we joined a park ranger that led us on a hour hike through the desert terrain, explaining the flora and formations as we hiked up and down the hillsides.

As we headed west, we came to Jerome, a mining town that is perched on the side of a mountain.
