After breakfast we drove to the Bar U Ranch, one of the largest and most successful ranches in North America.  It has been preserved as a national historic site to preserve the cowboy way of life. What a gem!  Did you know the ranches had cook and bunk cars (the size of a small box car or house) that they hauled into the fields at harvest time so the men could eat and sleep in the fields?  Of course with a ranch that was thousands of acres, that made lots of sense.

Driving north to Canmore, a little town south of Banff, was an amazing drive.  The wildlife we saw along the route was numerous...especially the big horned sheep.  When on the mountainside, their camouflage made them nearly impossible to see...and when they came close, they were really scruffy. We even encountered a ram who whas licking the white line on the side of the road...we figured he was doing his part in caring for Alberta's highways.

And the mountains were magnificant.  Every time we rounded the corner, and there were many, we would see another grand monument to mother nature.
