Skip got up early (6:00 am) and got ready for White Sox Fantasy Camp. I slept until about 8:00 am. Got up, and read the USA Today and got ready for golf.

I called the front desk and they sent a golf cart over to get me and take me to the Wigwam Gold Course...maybe three minutes. Got paid and hit several shots at the range and putted a few balls on the practice green before heading to the first tee. Ralph, the starter was a nice guy, and I met the two people they paired me with, Tom and Karina from Ashland, WI. Later I found out they are some of the few people in WI who hate the Green Bay Packers. They are Minesotta Viking fans. Very nice people. He's electrical engineer who works for a company who makes machines that turn wood into paper products. Very cool. She is a massage therapist. Again, nice people, and some great accents, eh? LOL! But I asked, the they don't eat Lutefisk! Eweew!!!

I played pretty well...some good shots, some bad, but two birdies on the back nine brought me in at 87 on their toughest course. Not bad for an old man. And the temperature was 65 degrees! Very nice!

Had a cocktail at the clubhouse bar (Reds), and headed back to the hotel room. Skip came in about half an hour later limping...he had turned his ankle pretty badly on a play in the outfield today, and he was hurting. We both grabed a beer and headed to the outside bar. Nice place with (gas) fireplaces in seveal places for people to sit around and talk, laugh, tell stories and just have fun. We did just that. Carlos May came out and Skip introduced us, which was quite interesitng...Carlos May lost a thumb BEFORE he made it in the major leagues in a grenade accident in Nam. Shaking hands with him was quite interesting. What a story, and what a great guy. That's when I found out this camp was more about the after-camp than it was the camp itself. Sitting around the "campfire" and listening to great stories by major league baseball players. How awesome was that?

Kittle was there and the life of the party as usual. Many of the other players were there as well. What a great time just sitting, listening and laughing with those guys.

Skip hooked us up with some nice people who we ended up going to dinner with...he was the Strohs beer distributor for Chicago. We went back to the bar at the golf course. Good Penne Pasta.

Afterwards, Skip hit the hot tub and I hit the computer, starting my blog, knowing there were at least tens of people who might be interested!!! (LOL!) It was a good day which promised to be a fun week!

More tomorrow...Dave
