A great British day out. The sun was out (occasionally), the beer was flowing and some men wearing white were smacking a small red thing with a plank of wood. Cricket.... a wonderful game, best enjoyed whilst hammered, sat round with a few good mates. In the absence of good friends, Cooke, Beeford, Tucker and Broomy formed the remainder of the party that took Derby by storm.

The game? Pretty dull...... The ground? OK, but the old farts who were members of the club didn't like us young whipper-snapper 30-50 somethings drinking in THEIR bar (no glasses for us - we had to make do with plastic in case we smashed them and started attacking the 75 year-old-woman who was sat on the balcony next to us....) Still, it was great fun.

After the game we headed into Derby for more beer at a selection of excellent watering holes, especially the Alexandra and the Brunswick Tavern. Friendly, great buildings and good beer. An honourable mention also goes to the Smithfield, although it was lacking in the areas of friendliness and surroundings.

Needless to say, we got the train home, drunk, and had to take care of GT, who then was taken home to take care of his 6-month daughter, Amber.....
