Firstly, let me say, Happy Birthday Jay. I know that we are a day behind you, but it is the 26th here at the moment, so technically your birthday. Hope you had a great day.

Now, after doing some washing, we headed off at 10.30am from Fairplay and headed up the I-9, which is a smaller highway, so got to see quite a bit of the country. In winter, this area is a ski area, but for the summer months, it appears that mountain biking is the go.

We drove through some lovely countryside and then found a town called Dillon, so we drove across the dam and took photos of Lake Dillon.

After leaving Dillon, we headed to Grand Lake and had some lunch there. This was another small town with lots of people and mountain bikes.

We continued on and headed to the Rocky Mountain National Park. There was a fee to drive through the park of $20 per vehicle so we had to pay, as we had come too far to turn around. Driving through the Rocky's was quite different to driving to Pikes Peak, but again the views were spectacular.

The speed limit through the park was about 25 mph and there were plenty of parking areas to stop and take photos, so we virtually stopped at all of them. At one stage, we came across a line up of cars, just stopped in the middle of the road. We realised that the cars were stopping to take a photo of something. It was a buck, just lying there, looking over the valley. He was on Darryl’s side of the car, so he got a couple of photos. From here, we could see another line up of cars, it was another buck and he was on my side, so got a couple of shots.

It was hard not to take photos, as everywhere you looked, there was an amazing view. Again, the photos will not do this place justice, as it is a place that you have to experience yourself.

We made our way out of the Rocky Mountains National Park and headed north. We made our way to Fort Collins and decided to continue on for a bit, not knowing that there were no hotels on the road we had taken.

We finally made it to Laramie, in Wyoming at 6.30pm and checked into a hotel for a much needed rest. We had been travelling since 10.30am with only a short stop for lunch and photos along the way.

Tomorrow we head up to Gillette to catch up with Ric and Jen, who we met in 2010. It is going to be nice to see them again.
