Scout Camp at Waipu

We met at the Scout Den late on Friday afternoon and headed north, stopping at Wellsford for a late dinner of McDonalds.  We arrived at the farm in Waipu and found that the farmer had not unlocked the gete, so we had to wait while a key was located.  Then, well after dark, we put the tents up.  We finished around midnight and then fell into bed dog tired (I had had a big night on Thursday after winning an award from Chorus).

The next day we started early for an adventurous day of caving.  I had only been in bigger caves where you can stand most of the time so this was going to be something different having to squeeze through small gaps and climb down waterfalls.  We spent around 3 hours under ground and it was an amazing experience for Alex, me and the rest of the boys.  The gap for the exit only had enough space between the roof and the water for your head (without hard hat).

In the afternoon we walked down the stream to a swimming hole and the water was very cold however we did swim.

The next day it was abseiling at the main Waipu cave and a walk through the cave.
